Cliff Stephens Park Clean Up
Park Clean Up Blog: September 6, 2018.
Today we volunteered with the City of Clearwater to clean up waste/litter at Cliff Stephens Park. It couldn’t have been a better morning! There was a cool breeze and the sun was shining. Most notably, it was a privilege to be in the company of good friends. We started the morning off by meeting with a very nice lady named Valerie from the Parks and Recreation department. The city provided all of the supplies we needed to safely clean up the park. After we were geared up, we were sent on our way!
Quickly it became a competition over who picked up the most trash. I know I found at least a dozen empty soda cans, rotten shoes, and leftover food stuffs. After about an hour of searching the park our trash bags were getting a little heavy but we had to keep going. Eventually I found a brick that would have been perfect for smashing Jeremy over the head with. Then finally I would have accomplished my true goal of taking his place as singer, but the timing just never really lined up.
After filling two extra large trash bags with random garbage and other litter, the park was definitely looking better on our way out than on our way in. It was a very fulfilling activity. We got to spend quality time together, enjoy the beautiful weather, and make our home look a little better. (That rhyme was completely intentional) All in all I would say it was a successful day.
Update September 9, 2018. We received news from Valerie that a total of 419 pounds of waste was removed from the park by all of the volunteers. We’re thankful to have been a part of that.
